Motorola Edge S official: everything at a glance
The Motorola Edge S is the first device equipped with the new Snapdragon 870 processor. Unlike, for example, the Motorola Moto G Stylus (2021), the Edge S comes with the more luxurious ‘Edge’ specifications. Devices within this product line have large screens, high-quality cameras and powerful processors. Of course, the Moto Edge S is also equipped with 5G support, although it is of little use here in the Netherlands. The new mobile network is not yet widely available.
First device with 870 processor
The most striking feature of the Motorola Edge S can be found under the hood. The Edge S runs on the Snapdragon 870 processor from manufacturer Qualcomm. This chip was recently announced and is in between last year’s Snapdragon 865 Plus and this year’s Snapdragon 888 in terms of performance. The Snapdragon 888 is the best chip at the moment and comes in the most expensive devices, while the 870 is intended for high-end smartphones with a lower price tag.
However, what the smartphone will cost is still unknown. For the time being, the device is only available in China. In all likelihood, the successor to the Motorola Edge is coming our way.
Three rear cameras and support for 6K video recording
The Motorola Edge S has a 6.7 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2520 by 1080 pixels. The screen has a refresh rate of 90Hz, which makes the phone feel smooth and fast. Rumors mentioned the different refresh rate of 105Hz, but this turns out not to be the case.
On the back of the Motorola Edge S are a total of three cameras and four sensors. The primary camera has a 64 megapixel lens and support for 6K video recording. With the 16-megapixel wide-angle lens, you can shoot wider shots, which is useful for landscape photography or group photos, for example. In addition, a 2 megapixel depth sensor is available for portrait photos.
The Motorola Edge S has a hefty battery of 5000 mAh, with support for 20 watt charging. In addition, the device is splash-proof and equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone connection.
Motorola is releasing two models of the Edge S. An entry-level model with 6GB RAM / 128GB storage and a version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space.
When and for what price the Motorola Edge S will appear on the Dutch or European market is not yet known. Of course we keep a close eye on Android Planet. Stay informed? Sign up for our newsletter and of course download our Android Planet app!
