Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra screen supports 120Hz with QHD resolution

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra could combine the smooth 120Hz display with the razor-sharp QHD resolution. This provides the most beautiful picture and is an improvement over the Galaxy S20 series. The S21 and S21 Plus seem to be left out.

Galaxy S21 Ultra screen combines 120Hz and QHD

The screen specifications of the Galaxy S21 Ultra leaked before, and are very similar to those of the Galaxy S20 Ultra from last year. The device has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a QHD resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

It was still unclear whether the S21 Ultra can display the QHD resolution in combination with 120Hz. The well-known and usually reliable tasty IceUniverse now reports on Twitter that it does. That’s nice because the screen does not make any compromises. You benefit from the highest screen resolution in combination with the highest refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

On the Galaxy S20 Ultra – and other S20 models – you have to choose between a lower Full HD resolution with 120Hz or the nicer QHD picture with a less smooth 60Hz refresh rate. This probably has several technical reasons, including higher power consumption. Samsung never wanted to give an official reason.

The also upcoming Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus are not expected to display 120Hz with QHD resolution, for the simple reason that the devices probably have a full HD display. A slightly less sharp display, but better for the battery life. The screens do support a 120Hz refresh rate.

More about the Galaxy S21 range

Much more has been leaked about the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. The smartphones run on a brand new Exynos processor with 5G support, they are equipped with Android 11 and the Galaxy S21 Ultra supports a separately available S-Pen to make drawings on the screen. This feature makes the smartphone an interesting alternative to the Galaxy Note 20 (Ultra).

Also interesting to know are the leaked prices of the Galaxy S21 series. The official announcement is not long in coming, as the Samsung Galaxy S21 presentation will take place on January 14. Hold Android Planet or our app for the latest news or sign up for the newsletter via the button below.
