The Samsung Galaxy S21 is one of the best smartphones of the year, but there are of course plenty of alternatives. Which devices are fierce competition for Samsung’s top model? Android Planet list the four best alternatives.

Alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S21

With the Galaxy S21 you get one of the best Android devices of 2021. The smartphone is nice and handy, has a beautiful screen and powerful hardware. Samsung also promises three years of Android updates and four years of security updates, which makes the update policy very good.

The device is therefore an excellent choice, but fortunately there are plenty of other smartphones worth considering. Below we list – in no particular order – our four favorite alternatives for the Samsung Galaxy S21.

1. OnePlus 8 Pro

oneplus 8 pro review

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a top device with a huge (6.78 inch) screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This makes the smartphone ideal for multimedia purposes. The OnePlus 8 Pro is also lightning fast, has a maximum of 12GB of RAM and shoots beautiful photos with its four cameras.

Also interesting is that the smartphone can charge wirelessly with 30 watts. That is considerably faster than the competition. The device has also been quickly updated to Android 11 and OnePlus’ OxygenOS shell is close to stock Android.

Good to know: OnePlus is expected to launch its latest top device, the OnePlus 9 Pro, in March or April.

You can read more about the smartphone in our extensive OnePlus 8 Pro review. The best deals of a separate OnePlus 8 Pro can be compared below. You will also find all types of (sim-only) subscriptions here.

2. Sony Xperia 5 II

Sony Xperia 5 II

The Sony Xperia 5 II is especially worth considering if you think the average smartphone is too big. Thanks to its relatively small 6-inch display and elongated 21: 9 screen ratio, this device is much easier to operate with one hand. The 120Hz OLED display looks very nice and the smartphone is light and waterproof and dustproof.

Furthermore, the device has powerful hardware, three fine cameras and almost stock Android. Points to consider are Sony’s relatively short two-year update policy and the lack of wireless charging. The Xperia 5 II contrasts this with features such as a headphone jack and very extensive camera software.

3. Oppo Find X2 Pro

Oppo Find X2 Pro preview

With the Oppo Find X2 Pro you get a smartphone that charges super fast and takes very nice photos. The 65 Watt charger lifts the battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 37 minutes and no smartphone in this overview can match that. Also cool is the periscopic zoom camera, which zooms five times without loss of quality. That’s more than the competition.

The large 6.7-inch 120Hz screen looks razor-sharp and smooth, and the hardware is excellent. From a super-fast processor to 12GB of RAM and 512GB (!) Of storage space: the Find X2 Pro has it all.

Good to know: Oppo will probably release the Find X3 series this spring, which will of course get better. Another point of attention is that the Find X2 Pro does not receive updates as long as alternative devices.

4. Samsung Galaxy S20

Samsung Galaxy S20

Do you not need the latest of the latest, but does a high-end Samsung smartphone appeal to you? Then the Samsung Galaxy S20 is worth considering. The predecessor of the Galaxy S21 is also nice and compact, has a beautiful 120Hz screen and is available in various versions. For example, you decide whether you want the cheaper 4G version or the more expensive, better and more future-proof 5G version.

The Galaxy S20 is hundreds of euros cheaper than the S21. That difference is of course reflected in the specifications, but the S20 still stands its ground and can last for years.

In our Samsung Galaxy S20 review you can read everything you want to know. The best deals can be compared below, whether you are looking for a separate Samsung Galaxy S20 or want the device in combination with a (sim-only) subscription.
