If you want to navigate with Android Auto, you currently have the choice between Google Maps and Waze. A number of new navigation apps will probably be added soon. We list the most important ones.
Read on after the ad.
These navigation apps are coming for Android Auto
The most popular navigation app for Android Auto is Google Maps, but there are plenty of reasons to want to use a different app. The only real alternative currently is Waze, which is also part of Google. This app has the great advantage that you get live traffic information on the road. Users can report diversions, accidents and much more. Is there a threat of a traffic jam? Then Waze will immediately offer you an alternative route.
There are many other navigation apps available for download in the Play Store, but they do not work in combination with Android Auto. Google happily revealed last year that it will also support third-party apps in the operating system. Since then, more navigation apps for Android Auto have been worked on. We list three of them.
Actually, Sygic is already available for Android Auto. It is a beta, so the app may not work optimally yet. Still, the arrival of Sygic is good news. The maps are of high quality and you can use them completely offline. You therefore do not need an internet connection on the go. This is useful if you are driving through an area where coverage is poor. You also go through your data bundle less quickly.

Flitsmeister is a Dutch navigation app with a large group of users. They report the location of speed cameras, just like traffic jams and section controls. So you can see exactly what to look out for along the way. Ambulances can also send a report to Flitsmeister, so that you can pull over on time. In addition, it is possible to pay parking costs from the app.
Flitsmeister is already available for Apple CarPlay and we are working hard on an app for Android Auto. You can now get the beta version by signing up via this link.
The once so powerful TomTom has fallen into obscurity with the arrival of smartphones. Nevertheless, many users still support the company because of the high quality of the cards. TomTom is also working on support for Android Auto. It is therefore expected that you will soon be able to use the app within Google’s operating system. Unfortunately, we cannot give a precise date yet.
