Will Huawei continue to make smartphones?

The US administration led by President Trump blacklisted Huawei in May 2019 because the company would pose a threat to national security. Since then, Huawei is no longer allowed to do business with American companies. Huawei may find it more difficult to obtain smartphone parts, must use an Android version without Google certification and has difficulty updating devices to new Android versions.

Huawei’s smartphone sales have slumped since 2019, especially in Europe. Daughter brand Honor was also hit by the trade sanctions, so much so that Huawei recently decided to sell Honor. Huawei wants to talk to President Biden

The latter, according to a conversation between Huawei director Ren Zhengfei and international media. He denies the rumors that Huawei wants to get rid of its smartphone division. “We will never sell our smartphone division,” Zhengfei emphasizes.

With Trump gone, Zhengfei is hoping to meet with new president Joe Biden. The director calls for a ‘reset of relations between the United States and Huawei’ and ‘new policy’ from Biden. In summary, the director hopes that Biden will decide to remove Huawei from the blacklist, so that the company can work again with Google and other tech companies. Biden’s government has not yet responded to Huawei’s open hand. Although the president has repeatedly indicated that he is in favor of measures against the Chinese company, he has not yet confirmed that he wants to keep Huawei on the blacklist.
